The Agropoli Danza Festival, conceived by women for women, presented the works of female artists and supported the Municipality of Agropoli in revitalizing its cultural scene. The project approached the topic of gender-based violence and discrimination through art and conversation.

Agropoli Danza Festival is a three day festival dedicated to supporting gender equality through dance performances by internationally recognized artists, conversations and master classes open to the public. This project elevated the voices of women artists and approached the topic of gender-based violence from a global and inclusive perspective. The first annual Agropoli Danza Festival took place July 23-25th, 2021 in Agropoli, Italy at the Castello Angioino Aragonese, a breathtaking performance venue in a UNESCO site and other sites to be determined with the city.

The Agropoli Danza Festival was a direct response both to the increase in violence inflicted on the global female community during the Covid-19 lockdowns, and to the needs of the many unemployed artists. It also provided a means for local economic recovery.

Our objectives for this project were to facilitate discussions, discourse, and dialogue around the topics of gender inequalities, address these issues that are happening right now, address how the COVID pandemic has affected these issues, and how we socialize our children — specifically young boys — around the topics of empathy. Overall, this project saught to ignite productive dialogue through art.
