WADEintoACTIVISM

What is WADEintoACTIVISM?

WADEintoACTIVISM is a hybrid, performing arts festival presenting work by female and historically underrepresented artists and conversations with feminist allies surrounding gender-based violence. WADE is joining the Global 16 Days Campaign, launched by the Center for Women’s Global Leadership (CWGL) and feminists from around the world running from November 25th (the International Day Against Violence on Women) through December 10th (Human Rights Day).

What is this year's theme?

In 2022, the Campaign is continuing its multi-year theme of Ending Femicide because of the urgency of the matter, the impunity of perpetrators, and lack of accountability of governments and agencies. The Campaign also continues to build on the previous multi-year theme on ending gender-based violence in the world of work.

Where does it take place?

WADE will host two in-person events on opening and closing night of the festival, co-produced by an exceptional women-led organization Arts on Site in the East Village of New York City. These live performances will present exceptional artists including Lori Belilove, Geri Brown, Oxana Chi, Jennifer Chin, Ai Isshiki, Dual Rivet, Rosy Svazlian, Vangeline, and more. Tickets will be available for reservation soon!

The interval 14 days of the festival will present digital events hosted on YouTube Premiere, free to all audiences. These digital presentations will include interviews, cameo speakers, and artistic works. Some highlights from our moderated conversations include: queer rights and visibility with Donald C. Shorter, activist, performer and drag queen; male feminist activists' efforts on abolishing violence against women with Humberto Carolo, Executive Director of White Ribbon in Canada; a conversation about consent with Speak About It.
